Once known as "Junction Grove," Englewood, Chicago is fast becoming one of the many areas of Chicago that is turning around. While Englewood had a rocky history in the late 80s and early 90s, a top priority of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has been to beautify Englewood. In 1999, Mayor Daley announced that funds had been allocated to revitalize Englewood. Part of this revitalization plan was to relocate Kennedy King College to Englewood, a $256 million project. The relocation of the college to the Englewood community would bring academia to the area, and academic institutions bring in different types of institutions because of students. Retail areas will follow Kennedy King College, especially school supply stores, food shops, coffee shops, and internet cafes.
