Parking in the Loop, Chicago

The Loop is one of the most difficult areas in Chicago to get parking. It is right in downtown, near all of the major businesses, and is the second largest business district after New York City. There is a large number of high rise buildings, including the first skyscraper. There are also a number of government buildings, including city hall and the Daley Center.

In a one mile radius there are three institutions of higher learning, Roosevelt University, Columbia College, and East West University, with the University of Chicago less than five miles away. That is four universities in extremely close proximity to each other, and the constant traffic means that finding parking in the area is never easy.

The Loop, like most of Chicago, is very close to the coast of Lake Michigan, making it a popular destination during the warmer months of the year. This also makes parking more difficult than an area that is not closest water.

The Loop is not just a business area, though. The Loop is one of Chicago's more diverse neighborhoods, with strong representation of whites, blacks, Asians, Hispanics, and other races. The neighborhood is middle class with a high median household income, showing the range of salaries the area has.

The Loop hosts an event that celebrates itself as an area called Looptopa as well. Looptopia is a relatively new event but is fast becoming a favorite among locals and visitors.
